I'm Taking Revel Courses (and So Can You!)

Just in time for registration:

Sure, Revel offers interesting classes with excellent professors. Heck, apart from the cool content, these three-credit courses meet only once a week, for an hour and forty minutes. and are chock full of intelligent and well-dressed grad students. So, tired of gazing through that door-window thing, wondering how a lowly undergrad like you could revel in the glory that is Revel?

Look no further than yu.edu/Revel/student_options.asp, which offers two roads into Revel.

1. Bachelor's/Master's (BA/MA) students -- Undergraduate students may register for the joint BA/MA program (see pages 14-15).

This option is fairly well advertised and is limited to final year seniors. But get a load of plan number two:
2. Undergraduate students taking graduate courses for undergraduate credit -- With the permission of the college dean and the dean of Revel Graduate School, undergraduate students may take graduate courses for undergraduate credit only.
I am currently doing just that . . . and loving it! If you are an interested, committed, somewhat intelligent student (i.e. most undergrads even interested in Revel courses), then email those sentiments to your respective Deans.

Act now and get a free "Yekhi Dr. Berger" hand towel!

It would be great if Revel could put out its course offerings for next year in time for YC registration. Do the Towels have mets logos on them?

Just know, that as an undergraduate taking Revel courses for undergraduate credit only- one may only take up to two courses!
Additionally, courses taken as part of the BA/MA program do not count towards your BA major. So if you are a Jewish Studies major and are counting on 4 extra courses for your major, forget it.
Nevertheless, it is a great option. Just wanted to make sure that you had all the facts.

"They may take up to 12 graduate credits (4 courses), but not more than 6 credits (2 courses) per semester, during their final year in college.

These credits may be counted toward both the B.A. and the M.A."

Those courses can count towards your BA, but not towards your major (The two classes you take earlier do, but not the BA/MA.

Also, while you can get around this, the registrar gives students enrolled in the BA/MA program problems when they try to graduate. They are under the misconception that you cannot earn your BA until you finish your MA- so be prepared for your graduation to be denied (at first).

I was searching cyberspace for some interesting jewish blogs (devoid of typos) and stumbled across tzarich iyun (which I liked a lot, by the way)...all of a sudden I started thinking, hmmm...this blog REALLY reminds me of Ben Greenfield...- then I checked the name on the profile. Heh.

How ARE you ?

Tamara, (Israel /Belgium)

Hi Tamara! What a fortuitous stumble! My email, already wildly spammed from internet exposure, is BentAura@gmail.com . Lookin' forward to hearing from you.

In fact you can count two Revel courses towards an undergrad Jewish studies major and one towards a minor. This I heard from Dr. Bernstein who is on academic standards and made this very rule.
